"Hit the poor and do the right thing by the rich - rather than a progressive tax system based one one's ability to pay and having a proper safety net based on dignity and need"

This post may reference the USA and the Republic Party there, but to many people it seems to also apply to conservative parties in Australia where there are welfare state provisions for corporations and wealthy individuals and families at the same time as assistance is being wound back or unfunded/defunded for public education, people with disabilities, public transport, Medicare, and other social goods and needs.

And to this post came a response from Mike Reynolds.

That's a great and very relevant question. Their philosophies is to cut individual and family welfare but assist highly paid CEO's and corporations to pay little tax. It's all about a regressive tax system, hit the poor and do the right thing by the rich, rather than a progressive tax system based on one's ability to pay and having a proper safety net based on dignity and need.
