Mental health experts in New South
Wales have highlighted a worrying trend: the rise in the number of men aged
over 85 who are taking their own lives.
The rate of suicide in this age group
is now three times higher than the national average.
The Council on the Ageing in New
South Wales will hold a forum in Sydney today to try and get to the bottom of
why this is happening.
Meanwhile, health professionals
believe ageism may be blinding some doctors from recognising warning signs of
mental illness.
If you are experiencing mental health
issues you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or MensLine Australia on 1300 78 99
78.
